Adams was indicted in September and charged with conspiracy, bribery, wire fraud and two counts of soliciting foreign contributions for his mayoral campaign. During Tuesdayโs news conference, Adams made it clear that he believes he was indicted for political reasons.
As proof of President Bidenโs agenda, he pulled out a copy of the New York Times front-page article about Bidenโs pardon of his son Hunter.
โPresident Biden and President-elect Donald Trump now agree on one thing,โ Adams read. โThe Biden Justice Department has been politicized...I rest my case.โ He also told the Wall Street Journal that people were โunhappy that [he] fought for this city.โ
CBS News reported that Adams reached out to Tom Homan, the Trump administrationโs new โborder czarโ to hear their plans pertaining to the deportation of illegal immigrants. He also said that Americans voted for Trump because of his border proposals. โWe cannot ignore the fact that the American people have communicated to us loudly and clearly that we have a broken system and they want it fixed,โ Adams said.
Per ABC 7 New York, during the conference, Adams insinuated that immigrants charged with crimes shouldnโt necessarily receive due process that he is receiving as a defendant in a criminal indictment. โIf you come into this country and this city and think you are going to harm innocent New Yorkers, and innocent migrants and asylum seekers, this is not the mayor you want to be under,โ Adams said.
โIโm an American. Americans have certain rights. The Constitution is for Americans. Iโm not a person who snuck into this country.โ
Reporters asked Adams if he plans on playing nice to receive a pardon from the Trump administration. According to the New York Times, Adams stated that he supports Trump appointing Elon Musk as a leader in his Cabinet to tackle โgovernment efficiency.โ โIโm not agreeing with them because of any other reason than I agree with them,โ Mr. Adams said,ย per the Times. โHow about that?โ
Per ABC 7 New York, Adams said on Tuesday that New York City has already spent over $6.4 billion to deal with more than 200,000 migrants bused from the southern borderโand Biden offered no help. โThey hurt the future of New York City and when people hear me say $6.4 billion...We didnโt invest in seniors the way we should have, and young people what we should have,โ Adams stated.
โWe all should be angry at what happened to our city under this administration.โ
