Ahh, TikTok. The app that launched a thousand dance challenges, stitch videos and more.
Where would we be without it on a boring Friday night? I’d hate to imagine. But luckily for you and me, we don’t have to. And it’s because of the enjoyment we get out of watching entertaining videos on the “clock app,” we thought it’d be fun to take a look at the trend that made it famous: dance challenges.

And because we celebrate all things Blackity-black on this side of the internet, here are a handful of the best Black TikTok dance challenges. So grab your phone, a water bottle and a towel and happy dancing!
Let’s start with…
Riverdance x Circle Challenge
This choreography comes alongside the mashup song between Beyonce’s “Riiverdance” and Lil Ronny MothaF’s “Circle” and it’s quick and catchy—though agility in your knees is necessary for this one. You’ve been warned.
Tyla’s Dance Challenge
It’s all in the hips and footwork in Tyla’s latest dance challenge, which could either inspire you or scare you off. We’ll let you decide.
Tyla’s Water Dance Challenge
Inspired by her hit “Water,” this challenge also from Tyla has a bit more moves than the aforementioned one but it’s fun when mastered (or attempted at the very least.)
The Dream’s “I Love Your Girl” Challenge
This one has a series of pretty simple moves, but it’s the mix of the popular 2007 hit by The Dream that has me hooked!
Fresh X Reckless “Blicky” Challenge
Ayo Edebiri’s Blicky challenge was the one that introduced me to this dance challenge and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. Go Chef! (If you know, you know).
Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You” Challenge
Now this one’s a little sped up, but if you can keep up, this could bring both the old and younger generations together. Who doesn’t love “Rock With You?”
Beyonce’s “Cuff It” Challenge
Y’all already know we had to kick things off with the Bey’s “Cuff It” challenge since it was all over the app for a year straight. (You might even catch me doing it if I hear this song out at a function, don’t judge me, it’s catchy!)
“Savage” Challenge
Arguably the dance challenge that put dance challenges on the TikTok on the map, the “Savage” challenge—inspired by Megan Thee Stallion’s song of the same name took over so swiftly even Taylor got whiplash.
“Renegade” Challenge
One of the earliest dance challenges on the “clock app,” was “Renegade.” The challenge had a handful of moves that I’m not quite sure I’ve mastered to this day, but I will keep trying until I’ve got it down!
Drake’s Toosie Slide
Of course Drake would make it on this list, the “Toosie Slide” was virtually made for mass attention.
Victoria Monet’s “On My Mama” Challenge
Thanks to Sean Bankhead, everybody and their mama (ha!) was trying to master the dance moves from Victoria Monet’s Grammy-nominated hit “On My Mama” and for good reason.
“Out West” Challenge
For fellow “geriatric millenials” such as myself, this challenge was so simple, I did it in my sleep.
DVSN’s “Touch It” Challenge
Shoutout to DVSN for not only releasing a grown and sexy song, but for releasing a song that inspired some super slick and sexy dance moves!
Cardi B.’s “Up” Challenge
Thanks to Sean Bankhead once again, this challenge has choreography I won’t be able to get out of my head for a LONG TIME. At this point, all you have to do is scream “If it’s up, then it’s…LEAN!”—and I’ll know exactly what to do.
Tshwala Bam Challenge
A fairly new one with one simple move, this Tshwala Bam dance goes out to all our brothers and sisters across the diaspora!
“If I Back It Up” Challenge
dsfsfsd
I remember when this one was all up and down the TikTok timelines. It’s catchy and contagious—who can blame all the participants?!
Beyonce’s “Sweet Honey Buckin” Challenge
fsdsfsd
OK, yes I know this one is relatively new considering Bey’s “Cowboy Carter” just dropped weeks ago, but this bucking from Imani Divine is oh so divine. Get into it!
Kelly Rowland’s “Like This” Challenge
Any time a Kelly Rowland bop can catch on to the mainstream years after it was released, I’m here for it. Plus, the moves were fun and simple enough!
Drake’s “In My Feelings” Challenge
Now this one was for the more adventurous of us since it involved dancing to the speed of a slowly moving car but, the “In My Feelings” challenge was a good time!
The “Cha-Cha” Challenge
Those of you from the old school will recognize this beat immediately—but hold off from doing the traditional moves. The new kids on the TikTok block have spiced it up a bit more!
