Find Ways to Pay for College: The Root Live Today at 11 a.m.

In many African-American families, when we have an important issue to discuss, we gather in the kitchen and bring it to the table. That’s especially true of financial discussions, whether about how to pay the bills, how to send Junior to college or where to start looking for a new job.

For the next three weeks, The Root Live: Bring It to the Table, hosted by Harriette Cole, will dig deep with expert guests for solutions to some of your family’s most vexing financial concerns. Sponsored by Prudential, The Root Live: Bring It to the Table has already addressed such topics as caring for elderly relatives, being a financially successful parent, retiring young and marriage and money.

In the eighth episode, which premieres today at 11 a.m. EDT at The Root, we’re discussing “Creative Ways to Fund an Education.” We will talk to guests who have had success finding money for school, and we’ll look at where to start a money search and how to find scholarships you never knew existed.

Guests include Shayla Price, an author dubbed “the scholarship queen” for finding $100,000 in free money. Since Price published The Scholarship Search: A Guide to Winning Free Money for College and More she has helped more than 5,000 students across the nation find and apply for scholarships.

Also joining us is Amber Johnson, an awareness and outreach specialist with the Department of Education. Johnson has been working for Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education, for three years. She began her career in federal public service as a program specialist in FSA’s Policy Liaison and Implementation group.

ShirleyAnn Robertson from Prudential will talk to us about the benefits of a 529 savings account and other ways to save for college.
