Celebrities, theyβre just like us. And that sentiment seems especially true for βThe Viewβ cohost Whoopi Goldberg who recently opened up about her views on dating and marriage β and itβs arguably the funniest and most relatable thing sheβs said all year. Iβll explain.
Goldbergβs views (ha!) were shared on the latest episode of βThe Don Lemon Showβ where she was there in promotion of her new memoir βBits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me.β However, when the subject switched to dating and marriage, Goldberg revealed a rather unorthodox preference (at least by more conservative folks who believe in the sex should only be reserved for married folks): she prefers one-night-stands, or as she calls them βhit-and-runs.β

Specifically, Goldberg βdoesnβt mindβ for her lover to come over β but they have to be gone by the time she opens her eyes in the morning. When asked by Lemon is she still partakes in that the act, Goldberg said:
βYou have to give yourself permission because you know you have this whole line of words that are stacked up in your head about what you are if you say a βhit-and-runβ is where you want to be, and you donβt want to be married. You know, βOh, am I a whore? Am I this? Am I a terrible person because I donβt want to?β
And I never really thought about it. I just thought, βWell I must be doing it wrong, βcause other people seem to be able to have figured it out.β What I didnβt realize with that was that I had figured it out. I just was surprised by the fact that I didnβt really want it, but I like to βhit-and-run.β And my mother said well maybe you should just throw a throw a party from now on, not get married anymore.
She added, of marriage: βI donβt really want that. I want to see you when I see you and then you go.β
Somebody put that last sentence on a shirt ASAP! As a matter of fact, go ahead and put her 2016 quote: βI donβt want somebody in my houseβ on the front and add this new one on the back. Itβll be an instant bestseller and Iβll be the first buyer!
Whether you agree with the stance or not, youβve got to applaud Goldbergβs consistency. From 2016 to 2024 β thatβs eight years of unwavering selfishness and I can do nothing but applaud her. Itβs honestly pretty real if you ask me. Sheβs a woman who knows what she wants and sheβs not compromising, and who can be mad at that?
