Here Are All the Summer 2023 Movies We Can’t Wait To See

Zendaya’s Challengers; Indiana Jones’ final adventure and Denzel Washington’s latest Equalizer mission are the summer movies we’re really excited about.

We’re halfway through 2023 and it’s been a great summer for Black blockbusters. As fun as it was to see The Little Mermaid and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse dominate the box office, there are still plenty of interesting titles set to hit the big screen. From the history of Black hockey players, to Jamie Foxx’s sci-fi/comedy They Cloned Tyrone, to Zendaya’s tennis-themed, steamy romance Challengers, we’ve got all the films you need to look out for in our summer movie preview.

June 30: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Harrison Ford’s final go-round as Indy should be chock full of childhood nostalgia.

July 14: Black Ice

Playing exclusively in AMC Theaters, this fascinating documentary tells the story of Black hockey players and the racism they’ve faced throughout the sport’s history.

July 21: Stephen Curry: Underrated – AppleTV+

This documentary chronicles the NBA superstar’s unexpected rise to fame and how he changed the game of basketball forever.

July 21: Barbie

We’re only here for Issa Rae as President Barbie.

July 21: They Cloned Tyrone – Netflix

John Boyega, Teyonah Parris and Jamie Foxx star in this wild sci-fi conspiracy/comedy. In this land of remakes and reboots, I’m excited anytime someone delivers a fresh, original story.

July 28: Haunted Mansion

I’m sure die-hard fans of the Disney theme park ride are counting the days for this one, but for the rest of us, it’s your basic haunted house comedy.

August 2: Meg 2: Trench

Is it really the summer movie season if you’re not watching giant sharks eat people?

August 11: The Last Voyage of the Demeter

Corey Hawkins stars as a doctor on the ill-fated ship which counts an infamous killer among its cargo.

August 11: Challengers

Zendaya is a tennis star who finds herself in a complicated relationship with two friends turned rivals.

August 18: Back on the Strip

If you like Magic Mike, but wish there was more Black representation, may I suggest Back on the Strip?

August 25: Bottoms

Ayo Edebiri and Marshawn Lynch star in this raunchy teen comedy about two friends who start a fight club at their high school, so they can meet girls.

August 25: Lift

Kevin Hart and Gugu Mbatha-Raw lead a star-studded cast in what sounds like an Ocean’s 11-style heist movie.

September 1: The Equalizer 3

I’ve always got time to watch Denzel “equalize” bad guys.
