‘Hot Girl Summer’ Officially Belongs to Megan Thee Stallion

Just in time for summer’s end, “Hot Girl” Megan Thee Stallion got her wish and was awarded a trademark for the song title and phrase she made go viral, “Hot Girl Summer.”

Citing information from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database, Complex reports that Theory Entertainment LLC (the legal name for Megan’s label, 300 Entertainment), has a live trademark for the phrase.

The rising rap star confirmed the same in an interview with 103 JAMZ out of Virginia.

“It’s trademarked. We did it,” she said.

Megan Thee Stallion is capitalizing on the popularity of the phrase she made famous, one that started being used in marketing by big corporate names like Wendy’s, Maybelline and Forever 21 not long after her single of the same name dropped.

Megan has indicated she wants to trademark “Hot Girl Summer” specifically for use in products such as clothing and other merchandise.

Her trademarking success is a rare win in the trademarking game this year. (According to Complex, Megan’s label also has trademarks on “Hot Nerd Shit” and “Hot Girl Semester.”)

This year also saw celebrities losing out on their bids to trademark certain phrases, like LeBron James and Cardi B did for “Taco Tuesday” and “Okurrrr,” respectively.
