If Nick Cannon Leaves America’s Got Talent, Does It Make a Sound?

Nick Cannon is a comedian. And I’m not talking about that hair thing that he’s taken to wearing lately or his rap career; like, Nick Cannon really believes himself to be a comedian.

And so do the people at Showtime apparently, because they gave Cannon a stand-up comedy special, and his current boss, NBC, isn’t too pleased about some of Cannon’s jokes. And Cannon isn’t too pleased about that.

According to Vulture, Cannon is leaving America’s Got Talent because NBC didn’t like jokes he made during his Stand Up, Don’t Shoot comedy show. The rift seems to be traced to jokes such as one saying that the network “took my real nigger card,” and that “NBC” stands for “Nigger Better Come on.”

See, I told you Cannon is a comedian. See, those are jokes!

Cannon, who has hosted the talent show on NBC for four years, took to Facebook to say: I will no longer be wearing a Houdini hat “After days of deliberating over some extremely disappointing news that I was being threatened with termination by Executives because of a comedy special that was only intended to bring communities closer together, I was to be punished for a joke. …

“It was brought to my attention by my ‘team’ that NBC believed that I was in breach of contract because I had disparaged their brand. In my defense, I would ask how so? Or is this just another way to silence and control an outspoken voice who often battles the establishment,” he continued.

I know; I’m shocked, too, that Cannon has a team, but apparently he does. Cannon then got on his Dame Dash ish and noted that he is a boss and, as such, he does boss shit.

“Maybe it was my mistake for signing the contract in the first place, in which I will take full responsibility and have already taken action to restructure my own team of advisors,” Cannon explained. “I now have to set out on a journey of freedom as an artist. As I was quoted in a recent interview, ‘You can’t fire a Boss’ and that is the essence that I possess. So I wish AGT and NBC the best in its upcoming season but I can not see myself returning.”
