A Columbia University student has not been seen since she was seen studying for her finals on the Ivy League campus in New York City on May 4, according to the Washington Post.
Nayla Kidd, described as a “loving and sweet-spirited” young woman who taught a popular belly dancing class on campus, has been published in several scientific journals.

Kidd, a sophomore in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, had not spoken to her mother, La Creis Kidd, of Louisville, Ky., since late April. Her mother didn’t think anything of it initially because she assumed that her daughter was preparing for final exams.
On Friday, Columbia’s Department of Public Safety released a flier asking people to watch for the 19-year-old, described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and 120 pounds.
Columbia’s statement reads: “Our community is deeply concerned whenever a student is missing. The University is in contact with Nayla Kidd’s family and is cooperating with the New York Police Department. We are working together to locate Nayla and urge anyone with any information that would be helpful to contact Columbia Public Safety at 212-854-5555or the NYPD 26th Precinct Detective Squad at 212-678-1351.”
Friends and family have also set up a Facebook page and the hashtag #FindingNayla.
