But singer and Real Housewives of Atlanta alumna Kandi Burruss is one star who did not have the same success. In fact, she recently opened up on PageSix’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast about her experience with the medication and the negative impact the results had on her mental health.
“Last year, I tried it,” she said in the interview. “I saw so many people who were trying it and losing weight. So I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to try this.’ And I didn’t lose any weight.”
Burruss said the medication – created for Type II diabetes patients to help the user lose weight by reducing their appetite — didn’t curb her cravings at all, which surprised her friends and her doctor.
“My doctor was like, ‘I don’t know what the problem is, I’m not seeing this in other people,’” she said.
Burruss said she hoped the drug would help her lose some of the weight she gained after leaving the cast of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” earlier this year. But when she didn’t get the results she had hoped for, Burruss said she began to feel sad and point the blame at herself.
“When you see it worked for other people and it doesn’t work for you, it makes you depressed,” she said. “Realistically, it makes you feel like, ‘What is wrong with me? Why is it not working for me?’”
The Xscape alum says with the help of a healthy diet, workout plan and weight management dietary supplement Hydroxycut, she hopes to lose at least 20 pounds.
“It has been years since I felt like I was real slim and trim — slim-thick, as I like to call it. It’s been a minute and I would love to just see myself get back to that, to my best self,” she said.
