(The Root) — Today's closing statements marked the beginning of the end of a trial that has had the social media world glued to television and computer screens since it began on June 24.

Twitter was tense as the prosecution's closing arguments started at around 1:30 p.m. EDT. It was too much for some to watch as it rehashed some painful, difficult moments of the trial, such as Rachel Jeantel's polarizing testimony. Others, though, stayed tuned in, live-tweeting in the closing hours of the trial as steadily as they did during its infancy.
