Everyone Is Talking About Malia Obama’s Plaid Dress She Wore in France

The eldest Obama daughter caught everyone's eye on the red carpet in a stunning Vivienne Westwood look while promoting her film project

Just over a week after her parents, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, unofficially came out of their political retirement to bring the house down with impassioned pleas to get out the vote for Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention, former first daughter, Malia Obama made a rare appearance of her own.

The eldest Obama daughter showed up on the red carpet at the 50th Annual Deauville American Film Festival in Deauville, France to promote her short film project, โ€œThe Heart,โ€ and it was her look โ€“ a two-piece plaid ensemble designed by Vivienne Westwood โ€“ as well as her film that had everyone talking.

โ€œI donโ€™t know as much about fashion, but Iโ€™m happy to be wearing it,โ€ she told reporters on the red carpet in Deauville.

Style watchers have been sweating Obamaโ€™s style for the past few years, just hoping to catch a glimpse during one of her rare public appearances. Who could forget the pair of 1017 A L Y X hiking boots she was spotted wearing back in April that had everyone Googling the brand that infuses laid-back California vibes and New York City chic?

Since she graduated from Harvard, the eldest Obama daughter has been trying to make a name for herself as a writer/director, even opting to drop her oh-so-famous last name and be known as Malia Ann instead. And sheโ€™s making things happen with some impressive real-life experience working on hit shows, including Donald Gloverโ€™s Prime Video miniseries โ€œSwarmโ€ and the HBO series โ€œGirls.โ€

The short film, which Obama describes as a story about a man grieving the death of his mother after she leaves him an unusual request in her will, was also featured at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

โ€œThe film is about lost objects and lonely people and forgiveness and regret. But I also think it works hard to uncover where tenderness and closeness can exist in these things,โ€ Obama said in a Meet the Artist video ahead of the Sundance screening.

Obama said she was โ€œa little bit terrified but mostly excitedโ€ about the opportunity to showcase her film in France.
