"We really believe this young man deserved to have a great birthday," saidΒ Tod Chambers, general manager at The Roosevelt Hotel, a historic luxury hotel on the edge of the French Quarter, which is donating a night's stay to Ka'Nard's family.

"Obviously, we can't change what happened to this poor young man, but at least we can make his birthday a positive experience," Chambers said.

Ka'Nard β€” accompanied by his mother, his sister and a friend β€” will enjoy a limo ride to the hotel, a free overnight stay in a suite and a personal poolside cabana, along with dinner, ice cream and cake.

This is the second time Ka'Nard has been a victim of gun violence. Last year at his 10thΒ birthday party, he was shot in the neck. Two others, including his 5-year-old cousin, were killed.
