People magazine writes that the spat started after a gossip site noted the dearth of female rappers on Twitter and then retweeted a user’s comment: “Yep, men are visual creatures they don’t care if you can sing … That’s why Nicki had to buy an ass to blow up! #Fact.”

The remark prompted the 33-year-old rapper to Twitter-school her critics.

The comment came after the ubiquitous rapper received three Grammy Award nominations, including best rap album for The Pinkprint and best rap performance for “Truffle Butter.”

Good for Minaj for sticking up for herself and being confident, which is an important asset whether you are a celebrity or not.
