Following the fatal shooting of a woman, a Florida mother is headed to prison on manslaughter charges. But police allege that her 10-year-old daughter is the one who pulled the trigger.
During Memorial Day weekend back in 2022, 33-year-old Lakrisha Isaac pulled up to a cookout hosted by 41-year-old Lashun Rodgers and confronted her over a social media post she made, according to an arrest affidavit. Authorities say when the discussion got heated, Isaac passed her backpack, which contained a loaded gun, to her 10-year-old daughter

The two women began to scuffle, police said. According to the Orlando Sentinel, neighbors claimed Isaac swung first. However, whoever threw the first punch didn’t matter after a few moments. Police allege the girl pulled the gun from her mother’s backpack and shot Rodgers twice, sending a bullet to her head. Police say she died later at the hospital.
“She shouldn’t have hit my mama!” witnesses claim the girl yelled.

Isaac was arrested and later released on bond. The girl — who was 10 years old at the time of the shooting — was also arrested shortly thereafter, but the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office said in a statement that no charging decision was made.
News 6 asked the state attorney’s office for an update last month in this regard — due in part to how State Attorney Andrew Bain replaced Monique Worrell in August 2023 — but we were told it was unable to comment on any cases involving a juvenile.
Isaac was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of manslaughter and culpable negligence after entering a no contest plea. She was also given a 128-day credit for time served. She is also to spend three years on probation and attend a parenting class as part of her conditions.
Isaac’s attorney says the 10-year-old girl remains in juvenile detention center with no pending charges, per WESH.
