On Tuesday afternoon, a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing took an unexpected turn when Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) asked Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) to âtake it outside.â The taunt came after the two had a heated exchange.
The debate was sparked as the topic of civil rights and transgender rights came up, and Crockett suggested that a subcommittee on civil rights be re-established. She also criticized Maceâs beliefs regarding transgender people.

âI can see that somebodyâs campaign coffers really are struggling right now. So [Mace] is gonna keep saying âtrans, trans, trans, transâ so that people will feel threatened, and child, listen,â Crockett said, according to NBC News.
Apparently, that didnât sit too well with Mace. âI am no child, do not call me a child, I am no child,â Mace immediately responded. This retort prompted committee chair James Comer (R-Ky.) to try to call for order, though it was unsuccessful.
âIf you want to take it outside, we can do that,â Mace said, talking to Crockett.
Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) came to Crockettâs defense, insisting that saying Mace had incited violence against her.
However, Comer ultimately ruled that Maceâs comment wasnât about violence and stated that Mace could have been asking Crockett to go outside to âhave a cup of coffee or perhaps a beer.â
Mace agreed with the assertion, and doubled down on X that she wasnât trying to fight Crockett.
âLet me be clear: I wanted to take the conversation off the floor to have a more constructive conversation, not to fight. At no point was there any intention of causing harm to anyone,â she wrote.
However, Crockett went on the app to give her side of what happenedâand called Mace an âattention seeking loserâ in the process.
âRepublicans incite violence from the highest levels of government & ALSO claim to be the party of law & order…Last I checked, threatening members in a committee room doesnât exactly reduce the cost of eggs,â she stated.
This isnât the first time Crockett had to deal with a disrespectful Republican during a House meeting. Last year, she went viral for her alliterative quip after Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene ( R-Ga.) insulted Crockettâs eyelashes.
âIf someone on this committee then starts talking about somebodyâs bleach blond, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?â Crockett infamously asked Comer when he ruled that Greeneâs words had not violated the committeeâs rules.
