A Seattle woman who was punched in the face by a police officer during an arrest on charges of domestic violence has filed a $1 million claim against the city, saying that her rights were violated, the city clerk’s office said Friday, according to Reuters.

Miyekko Durden-Bosley, 23, suffered a fractured eye socket in the June 22 incident, which was captured on police video.
In the video, Durden-Bosley can be seen kicking at the head of Officer Adley Shepherd as she is handcuffed and placed in the patrol car. The officer then punches her in the face, the report says. Both Durden-Bosley and Shepherd are black.
The lawsuit, filed this week, names the city of Seattle and Officer Shepherd and alleges that Durden-Bosley was assaulted and falsely arrested. It also says that the officer had received inadequate training, the news service reports. Reuters was unable to reach Durden-Bosley’s attorney for comment.
Video of the arrest and photos of Durden-Bosley with a swollen eye emerged last year as protests rose across the country over police violence against minorities in the aftermath of the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of white officers in Ferguson, Mo., and New York City.
