Anthony Mackie’s Captain America is finally hitting the big screen! Disney just dropped the first trailer for the upcoming flick, which sees Mackie again holding the iconic shield after taking over the role in the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” The new films marks the first Black Captain America in a superhero film.
Like the “Captain America” films before it, the trailer teases action, high-speed chases, and intrigue, with a mystery centered around the President of the United States and subsequent attacks against him. “Sir, your inner circle has been compromised,” Mackie’s character Sam Wilson warns the President (Harrison Ford) in the action-packed trailer. “Either you can’t see that, or you don’t want to.”

The internet is going up for Mackie’s turn as Captain America, with many people taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their excitement. As one user wrote, “Marvel saw the timeline in shambles yesterday and came through for us.” Others wrote that the film looks, “pretty sick,” specifically with the “political tone” the film is taking.
The trailer also teases a Red Hulk, a character many fans have been waiting to see. One user wrote, “I waited for this moment to see Sam Wilson(Anthony Mackie) fully take on the mantle of Captain America. BTW...Red Hulk Incoming!!!”
As The Root previously reported, Mackie’s turn as Captain America in an official Marvel Cinematic Universe film has been a long time coming. When the project was announced in 2022, Mackie opened up about the role of Sam: “What you have to realize about Sam — he’s a superhero who is not really a superhero. There’s no secret serum. There’s no this or that. I just have wings on my suit that I got from the military. So everything that I do, I do as a common man. When you see me, you might think, ‘Oh, I can be a superhero, too.’ Whereas if you look at Hulk or any of those guys, you can’t compete.”
