John Felix, 26, a suspect in the shooting deaths of two Palm Springs, Calif., police officers, was expected to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder, including multiple murder and the murder of a police officer in the line of duty. The death penalty is currently being weighed by the office of District Attorney Michael Hestrin, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"I consider the brutal murder of a police officer to be a very heinous crime, so I will leave it at that," said Hestrin.

According to the Times, Felix is accused of opening fire and murdering Officer Lesley Zerebny, 27, and Officer Jose "Gil" Vega, 63. Zerebny was a new mother to a daughter who is now 4 months old, and Vega was a father of eight and had been with the Palm Springs Police Department for 35 years.
The shooting took place in Palm Springs while police were responding to a domestic violence call.
