Will Smith is tackling concussions in his upcoming film, Concussion, about Dr. Bennet Omalu, the famed doctor who discovered neurodegenerative disease, which many NFL players have suffered after repeated head trauma.
Omalu’s research on the brains of ex-NFL players Dave Duerson and Andre Waters led him to realize that symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy are memory loss and depression. Duerson and Waters both committed suicide after suffering from the disease.
