While Goldberg offered grace for Jackson at the top of the segment, her other cohosts were not as forgiving, specifically Ana Navarro. She said in the Hot Topics segment that while Jackson has the right to endorse anyone she wants, she still spread โmisinformationโ about Harris.
โI think itโs very irresponsible when you have a platform the way Janet Jackson does, to use that platform carelessly, to spread misinformation based on a racist allegation by Donald Trump,โ she explained. Goldberg allowed for more room for error with Jackson, saying that โsometimes people get it wrong and theyโre wrong! They made a mistake, they were wrong. It happens.โ
The EGOT winner added, โAnybody who says it doesnโt happen to every one of us, multiracial or not, we all do it. So okay, a little grace for the girl. A little grace for the girl.โ
Co-host Sunny Hostin, as a biracial woman herself, spoke to her experience while stating that it is โunfortunateโ that Jackson made those comments out of โmisinformationโ or possibly โlack of information.โ

As The Root previously reported, Jacksonโs comments took the internet by storm when they landed over the weekend. In the interview with The Guardian, Jackson echoed a popular right wing conspiracy theory that Harris is not Black. โHer fatherโs white,โ she said in the interview. โThatโs what I was told. I mean, I havenโt watched the news in a few days.โ
While an apology was sent to outlets on Sunday from Mo Elmasri, who claimed to be Jacksonโs rep, the statement has since been confirmed as not affiliated with Jackson.
