One evening back in March, authorities said 19-year-old Derica Wiggins was caught on the Ring camera entering her ex-boyfriendβs home. Inside, he laid in the bed with his new girlfriend and child. Her manβs new girl told investigators she heard the sound of a lighter flicking just outside the bedroom door and saw someone peep through the crack. She assumed it was the manβs brother, but moments later she told investigators she woke up to the bed sheets going up in flames, police say.
Olβ boy was able to extinguish the flames and went outside to confront his ex-girlfriend in the driveway, per WREGβs report. The police said by the time they responded, the damages sustained to the home were mainly to the bed comforter and smoke damage to houseβs furniture.
The Root called the Memphis Police Department to confirm if anyone sustained injuries from the fire but did not receive a response immediately.
According to Law&Crime, everyone involved in the incident, including the youngin, was unharmed.
It wasnβt until this past Friday when Wiggins was arrested and slapped with charges of reckless burning, setting fire to personal property, aggravated arson and two counts of aggravated assault, according to Shelby County Jailβs website. Sheβs being held on a $200,000 bond.
