The Obama love story is one weâve been following since former President Barack Obama first dipped into American politics. Now that theyâre both away from the White House, it seems everyone is paying special attention to former First Lady Michelle and her husbandâs relationship…. but clearly, some of yâall got it all wrong!
Now, theyâre setting the record straight. As reported by Daily Mail, Michelle announced on Instagram that The Obama Presidential Center is planning to honor Hadiya Pendletonâ the Chicago girl who was killed just days after she performed at Obamaâs second inauguration. The Obamas will be opening a memorial garden in her honor.

Although heartfelt and serious, Michelle made sure to note she and her husband will be there… together. âShe had an extraordinary light that will not be forgotten,â the first lady wrote before emphasizing âand Barack and I look forward to honoring her memory through a dedicated space at the Obama Presidential Center.â
This marks the first time the former First Lady is set to appear at a major event since last year. After the death of her mother in May 2024, Michelle wasnât too engaged with the public. She did, however make an appearance at the Democratic National Convention in August, where she shared that she almost didnât make it on stage. âI still feel her loss so profoundly,â she said. âI wasnât even sure Iâd be steady enough to stand before you tonight,â she told the crowd.
She and Mr. Obama also headlined multiple events during former Vice President Kamala Harrisâ presidential campaign, but most recently, people have noticed Michelleâs absence. She missed out on President Jimmy Carterâs funeral and even President Donald Trumpâs second inauguration.
Sources close to the former first lady said she âdoesnât do anything because itâs expected or itâs protocol or itâs tradition,â according to PEOPLE. And because we all know she canât stand Trump and all his antics, it was no shocker when the source revealed âThereâs no overstating her feelings about [Trump]. Sheâs not one to plaster on a pleasant face and pretend for protocolâs sake,â as The Root previously reported.
The last time she and Trump were in the same room was in 2018 during former President George H.W. Bushâs funeral. So now that itâs been made clear that the only man Michelle has been trying to avoid is Trump, we just wish the internet would kill the rumors and leave Michelle and her man alone!
