BET Awards Red Carpet Trainwrecks Over The Years

We take a look back at the iconic ceremony’s worst outfits.

The 24th Annual BET Awards took place on Sunday (June 30) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles at the internet is still buzzing about it. From Taraji’s influencer mixup to Usher’s all-female tribute, the night provided some unforgettable and very viral moments. Over the years, the ceremony has also provided some notable red carpet trainwrecks. Here are the most notorious from over the years.

Ice Spice (2024)

From her cartoonish coif to the material and fabric of her dress, Ice Spice’s outfit was a complete and total miss.

We love us some Free—but we simply don’t love this look.

Lil’ Mama (2008)

For this look, Lil’ Mama’s red getup sadly was giving homemaker chic.

Kweisi Gharreau (2007)

Writer Kweisi Gharreau was trying to promote his work on the red carpet, but his terrible frock took away from the moment.

Remy Ma (2005)

Remy Ma’s sexy peek-a-boo dress was too much of a bad thing.

Chingy (2005)

Chingy’s oversized fashion choices for the ceremony showed how the “Right Thurr” emcee desperately needed a stylist.

Da Brat (2003)

We’re not sure what Da Brat was thinking with her Spongebob tribute back in 2003 — and she probably doesn’t either.

Nicki Minaj (2011)

Nicki Minaj was known for her over the top persona and this tacky ensemble echoed that sentiment.

Young Dro (2024)

Young Dro wore an outfit that screams “golf” instead of “formal wear”—and we’ll never understand why.

MC Lyte (2009)

We’re not sure how MC Lyte wasn’t hot as hell in this ridiculously ruffled top.

Kanye West (2022)

Donning a pair of blue motorcycle gloves, sunglasses and a black mask that covered his whole face, Kanye West looked like he came straight from a horror film to the BET Awards.

Latoya Jackson (2003)

Latoya Jackson’s 2003 BET Awards dress reminded us of ripped napkin remnants.

Soulja Boy (2008)

Soulja Boy’s 2008 look at the ceremony was very Soulja Boy—and that’s all we’ll say about that.

B.o.B (2011)

B.o.B’s denim patchwork shorts, orange boots and plaid socks clashed—and not in a fun way.

Trina (2002)

We love the “Baddest Chick,” but Trina’s 2002 outfit was bad in the worst way possible.

Big Boi (2006)

Big Boi has always embodied Atlanta cool, but even he can take things a little too far.

Durrell Dupard (2024)

Durrell definitely made a statement with this frock—but sadly it’s the wrong one.

Brandy (2004)

Brandy’s 2004 BET Awards look was confusing at best—but at least the singer looked happy to be there.

LL Cool J (2002)

Ladies, do in fact, love cool James — but not his past fashion choices.

Paris Bennett (2006)

The former “American Idol” contestant Paris Bennett was downright adorable, but her clothes weren’t.

Elephant Man (2004)

Elephant Man’s bold prints and blonde hair were just a no.

Eve (2001)

Photo: Getty Images Gregg DeGuire Photo: Getty Images Gregg DeGuire

Eve may have won for “Best Female Hip-Hop” artist of the year at the very first BET Awards, but her denim ensemble left much to be desired.

Kendrick Lamar (2012)

K. Dot may be the GOAT, but his attempt to be cutting edge at the 2012 BET Awards didn’t go over well…at all.

Kym E. Whitley (2002)

Kym’s all red ensemble—the hat, the dress, the purse, the shoes—was a disaster from start to finish.
